Post Comment Love 29-31 July 2016

Hello and welcome to another #PoCoLo and another Friday - yay! Welcome back if you've been here before and hello if it's your first time linking. I'm loving the variety of posts you link up each week and while I'm a bit behind on my reading - it's that nice weather again - I fully intend to get around to all of you, and catch up on myself.

I'm trying not to beat myself up too much about it - and hope you don't beat me up either - but when the weather is warm and the days are long, routine seems to fall by the wayside a bit. As usual I've been cramming in as much as I can and my posts this week have been inspired by a visit to Norfolk last weekend, it's been far too long since I was last there!

My photo this week has links to Norfolk, but is of my dresser at home. I cut the lavender from the allotment earlier in the week and have hung it there to dry and to enjoy its scent. I'm quite proud of my little bit of lavender, I took the cuttings and nurtured them along to this.  And those cuttings came from a plant dad gave me - the Norfolk connection!

Newbie Showcase: Jade from The Parenting Jungle

I am Jade, creator of the The Parenting Jungle, a (somehow) multi-award nominated parent blogger (nanny??!), cake eater and Mummy to a five year old son, who is three foot of superhero-shaped excitement.

I trained in Primary education and Social work. Sadly neither of these courses educated me on how to get my own child to sleep, or eat anything but spaghetti hoops. I was a single parent until a few months ago. I am not sure what is more difficult, raising a child solo or trying to maintain a successful adult relationship when you have given up shaving your legs. I like loose routines, outdoor playing, positive reinforcement, dragon breathing (when you are cross & want to curse) and eating your kid’s leftovers.

The Parenting Jungle

I post about all things parent-hood. My blog is a colourful mishmash of photographs, personal experiences and heartfelt posts from the times where I wished I had another parent to hit me on the face with a soggy nappy and say, ‘you can get through this, it's ok if you are wearing yesterday’s pants’.  I try to always include tips and offer support to dispel that lingering grey feeling that we are not good enough as parents. When I give advice, I know that I am a novice and every parent is different. Diversity is good; look how successful skittles are. I also post family friendly recipes, have a Storytime vlog, lifestyle posts, offer product reviews, feature child friendly days out in the South West and whatever else tickles my mummy fancy.

Five of my/my blogger buddies favourite Jungle posts are:

  1. My mum-splanations. Three common questions parents are asked and how I answered.

  2. A note to a new mother. Mum to a mum.

  3. Thinking of the dad I never had before father’s day and what a dad means to my son.

  4. The reality of separate parents and shared parenting: a Mummy’s feelings on weekends with Daddy.

  5. MUMMY. I am going to poo in my Spiderman onesie.” The power battles of a five year old.

Post Comment Love 22-24 July 2016

Hello and welcome to another Friday and another Post Comment Love. The place to be on Fridays for any post you've written in the past week that could do with some extra love. This week I've linked up a foray into poetry, which is quite an unusual post for me.

I've spent a lot of this week outside - on the allotment, in the garden, in the greenhouse, lunches outside and evenings eating from the barbecue and it's been great. When I've not been outside I've been trying to spend as much time as I can in the air conditioned office or in front of the fan at the end of our bed.

The downside though of all this time outdoors is a blip in my blogging routine, so I'll be spending time this weekend catching up, whatever the weather!

As I wandered up the garden one morning I saw this bee going about its work on the cosmos and as luck would had it my camera was to hand. So this week's photo is of that.

Post Comment Love & Newbie Showcase 15 July 2016

Hello there!  Guess what? Yes it's Friday again, so welcome to this week's Post Comment Love. You might be wondering why I'm sharing what is a rather pretty of rain. Or you might be fed up with the rain, but that's not why. This week I think the rain's had it in for me. No honestly.

Do you know how many times this week it's rained at 1pm and 5pm?

Lots I tell you. It even prevented a bike ride to a local office on Tuesday, hammering it down it was. I guess that's "summer" for you! Let's hope the weather becomes more summer like soon, or sunnier at least.

Newbie Showcase: Jacqui from Recipes made easy

I have been a cookery writer and food stylist ( a fancy word for someone who cooks food to be photographed) for over 25 years and have written recipes for both weekly and monthly magazines here in the UK, as well as having written over 15 cookery books but I have only just started blogging my recipes.

I started my blog Recipes Made Easy at the end of last year, when my two boys had moved away from home and started

asking for recipes that they could cook. I had been thinking about writing a blog for a couple of years but just hadn't got around to it. They needed easy reliable recipes so this was the nudge I needed.

I love blogging and wish I had started earlier. The recipes on the blog are the recipes that I cook at home for family and friends and I love sharing them. All my recipes are well tested and I always try to explain each recipe clearly so even a beginner can understand.

I’ve learnt so much over the last few months as writing is just the beginning. There is the technical side to learn, social media to keep up to date, and not forgetting photographing the food. Before I started the blog I had only had to worry about how the food looked when shooting, now I am busy learning about exposure, lighting and post shoot editing as well. But luckily I soon discovered the food blogging world is a large and friendly community who are so free with their help and advice and for which I am very grateful.

When I’m not in the kitchen or at my computer I can be found at my tiny city allotment where I grow soft fruit and herbs or by the coast in Suffolk where I have a holiday cottage.  I also like to crochet and love the theatre.

Thanks Jacqui, you've inspired me to get started again with my sourdough. I've missed eating it and it really isn't as tricky as you first think.
