Post Comment Love and Blogger Showcase 2 - 4 August

Hello there and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo a friendly linky where you can link any post published in the last week. Both Morgan and I know you’ll find some great posts to read, and maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked and share some of that love.

It’s been a week where I’ve had no idea what day it is, sometimes that’s been bliss but mostly it’s been annoying and confusing. It’s amused my work colleagues though, especially when asking what day it was on Monday. I seem to be over-busy at work and i’m putting it down to that, rather than anything more serious.

But some serious downtime is needed - and will hopefully happen - this weekend. I have finally, started to edit my photos from our trip to Portugal, and this week’s photo is one of those. It’s from the garden of one of the restaurants we ate in in Lisbon, and I’ve a post coming on the whole restaurant in the next week or so.

Blogger Showcase: Robin from Mastering the Side Jam

1 Who are you?

My name is Robin, I’m in my mid-forties, and have two sons who are in their twenties. I’m actually their step-mom, but I’m the one who raised them from when they were toddlers. I have a full-time job, so do my blogging on nights and weekends. Other than that, you can find me hanging out with my two bulldogs or reading a good book.

2 How did you discover blogging?

I discovered blogging accidentally, when I was looking around on the internet for survey companies to try. I’d been doing surveys for years, back before there was an internet! You’d actually get them in the mail, fill them out, mail them back -- and then you’d eventually receive a paper check. It’s sooo much easier now to do it online. One of the posts I read talked about blogging to make money -- and I thought, I could probably write a blog post about doing surveys. Why not try it?

3 Why did you start blogging?

Initially, my main goal was money-focused. But as I started learning more about building my website, optimizing for SEO, writing content directed to my audience -- all of those aspects were just so interesting to me, that I wanted to learn and do more. As of right now, I’ve created (and am trying to maintain) four different blogs. Which is insane, because I totally cannot handle it all -- but it’s just so amazing and fun to do!

4 What do you find most challenging?

The most challenging piece for me is definitely the social interaction. I’m an introvert, and I have social anxiety so I get really anxious in networking situations. Even over the internet -- you’d be surprised how intimidating it can be to even reach out to someone via Twitter or email. I’m someone who is comfortable working independently. However, that’s not the way of the blogging world, which is something I learned several months into the process. You need support, interaction, and you definitely need to be a team player.

5 What is your favourite topic to write about?

I love to write about personal experiences, especially when it comes to finding your voice or coming into your own. While the topic isn’t directly related to finances or money (which is my niche), I firmly believe mindset definitely dictates your success in all things. And that includes confidence, health, relationships, and also finances.

6 Are you blogging for fun or do you have goals?

While blogging is fun for me, and I can’t imagine giving it up -- I do have goals. I’d like to build my brand into a small-scale business. Enough to supplement my income, since I don’t imagine leaving my day job. (But I mean -- if that happened, I’d be over the moon!) Right now, I’d like to be able to earn money consistently, to maintain my blogs, pay a bunch of bills, grow a nest egg, and not have to worry about the future.

7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is the creative process. When you think about the thousands (or millions?) of blogs out there, all with different content. All of these ideas emanated from someone’s imagination, or experiences. Some content may be similar, but none are exactly the same.

8 Have you ever attended a blogging conference, and if so what did you think?

I attended FinCon 2018 in Orlando, Florida, USA. It was my very first conference, and it was a doozy. For a socially anxious introvert, being dropped into this frenzy of 2,200 people networking, collaborating, and partying -- let’s just say it was a bit more than what I was ready for. Especially since I didn’t know anyone else there. But I believe every challenge makes us stronger, so I look forward to the next conference I’m able to attend. Plus I know more people now, so won’t be quite as uncomfortable as before.

9 What are your three best posts?

  1. The Day I Got Five More Minutes with My Mom

  2. 13 Lessons Horror Movies Teach Us About Personal Finance

  3. How I Learned to Blog Anonymously, and Why I Stopped

10 Describe yourself in 3 words

Introspective. Curious. Loyal.

11 Are you a tea and biscuits or a coffee and cake person?

Coffee and cake, most definitely. And if it’s ice cream cake, even better!

12 What’s your idea of the perfect night out?

Small group of people, a casual dinner at a nice restaurant, maybe a movie or broadway show afterwards

13 And the perfect night in?

Winter time, it’s snowing outside (and I don’t need to go anywhere), fire blazing in the fireplace, reading a book or watching a good movie, with my two puppies next to me.

14 What would your best friend/OH/mum or kids say is your best quality?

My organizational skills. I’m usually very prepared, make lists for everything, and like to think scenarios through prior to making decisions. Definitely not a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants sort of gal.

Hello there and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo a friendly linky where you can link any post published in the last week. Both Morgan and I know you’ll find some great posts to read, maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked and share some of that love.

Boy, wasn’t it hot last Saturday? I like it warmer but I was finding it hard to function normally, and I don’t just mean walking about, I also mean thinking straight without the fog of heat that somehow appeared between my ears. So as it turned out Saturday was too hot for most things, so we took the opportunity to enjoy our garden, which was timely really as that’s the theme for my still quite new garden link-up, The Garden Year.

In a shameless plug for that you’re welcome to head over there at any point in the month and link up a post old or new that matches the theme of ‘enjoying summertime in your garden’.

Blogger Showcase: Laurie from Meditations in Motion

1 Who are you?

I’m Laurie, a retired chemistry teacher from Pennsylvania (US) who began blogging a little over a year ago. I am passionate about running long distances, which gives me time to ruminate (and then blog) on topics that interest me. I am a mom to three adult sons, Mimi to three grandsons, and wife to a very patient husband who is also  a runner. I am outgoing, love to groan at corny jokes, and an inveterate optimist.

2 How did you discover blogging?

A friend of mine suggested that I read a post from a running blog she follows. I read the post, loved it, and thought “I could do that”. My son, who has his PhD. in Computer Science, helped me set up my blog.

3 Why did you start blogging?

After I retired, I had the time to pursue new interests and blogging was one of them. I love the blogging community. The first friends I made were book bloggers and they generously showed me the ropes and helped me make friends. I love the creative aspects of blogging, the feeling of satisfaction when a good post comes together, the research which is sometimes necessary, and the challenge of coming up with topic ideas.

4 What do you find most challenging?

Mastering social media and promoting my blog have never been easy for me. I am a sporadic Tweeter and Facebook poster. I might go for weeks or even months without posting anything, then I remember “Oh, yes. I should look in on my Twitter account!” and I will Tweet up a storm. Until I forget again.

5 What is your favorite topic to write about?

I actually have two favorite topics: faith and running. Because I often think about faith-based topics when I run, my posts often trend in that direction. My faith informs my views on social justice, economics, politics, and race. They push me towards greater compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and love.

6 Are you blogging for fun or do you have goals?

Absolutely for fun.

7 What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Without question, my favorite thing about blogging is the eclectic group of people I have met from all over the world whom I never would have had the opportunity to exchange ideas with if it weren’t for blogging.

8 Have you ever attended a blogging conference?

Nope.

9 What are your three best posts?

That’s almost like asking which if your favorite child, but here are three I am proud of:

Love, Like Bread, Made New All the Time

A Second Chance For a Frozen Heart

Do You Believe in Magic?

10 Describe yourself in 3 words.

Irrepressible wry woman.

11 Tea and biscuits or coffee and cake?

My natural inclination is for coffee and cake, but since sugar is a no-no in my new diet (designed to lower my cholesterol), just the coffee, thanks.

12 What’s your idea of the perfect night out?

Going to a dive restaurant with excellent food with my hubby and maybe a few other good friends, laughing until tears stream down our cheeks, and staying until the place closes.

13 And the perfect night in?

Eating popcorn and watching baseball on TV with Hubs.

14 What would your best friend/OH/kids say is your best quality?

I had no idea, so I just asked my best friend. Apparently, I am unfailingly kind. (I told her what I thought her best trait was too!)

Thanks Laurie for sharing more about you and your blog, no doubt you’ll already know how much I enjoy learning more about one of our regular linkers. Morgan and I are always on the lookout for bloggers to showcase in this feature, so if you’re interested then please do get in touch with us.

Post Comment Love & Blogger Showcase 24-27 May

Hello there and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo a friendly linky where you can link any post published in the last week. Both Morgan and I know you’ll find some great posts to read, maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked and share some of that love - and as it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, the linky will stay open for an extra day.

How’s your week been this week? I’ve had a week for getting organised - mostly at work - but it’s shown how a bit (or in my case a lot) of this kind of activity can really calm our brains. I might have taken some time to plan and sort through things, rather than doing, but I’m feeling quite a bit more in control. And now I can concentrate on getting the right things done, which always helps.

I missed going to Chelsea this week but have enjoyed seeing the coverage and remembering my day there last year. And with no new Chelsea photos to share, I’ve resorted to one from last year - just look at those colours. If only my garden looked as good right now!

Blogger Showcase: Tinka from Little Tinkablee

1 Who are you?

Hi, I’m Tinka. An aspiring author, currently writing her dream and fighting my invisible demons while trying to help others do the same. I’m a welsh girl in Liverpool with my three cats whom I adore very much. I’ve been with my partner since high school (he was my high school crush). I love animals, learning and creating new things, books, art, writing, off path nature walks, taking pictures and making memories when I can.

I suffer from a few mental health problems that have left me home bound for two years before and has overruled my life since. This year is the year I take back my life, start writing my dream and win my battles one baby step at a time.

2 How did you discover blogs/blogging?

I discovered blogs not long after blogging became a thing, and then vlogging became a thing but I’ve never had the time and then when I did have the time, I just never had the confidence. After all who cares what me, a stranger who can’t even leave her own house has to say?

3 Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging originally to help myself. I needed a way to get myself out there and overcome my fears, one of those fears was communicating with others online (I have terrible social anxiety that isn’t just limited to real life interactions). I’ve let my mental illnesses take over and rule my life to the point I have hidden myself away from all human interaction other than that of my boyfriend who just refuses to give up on me.

But then it quickly became about helping others as much as it was about helping myself. Following, talking and befriending some amazing bloggers that are sharing their own stories and journeys has help inspire me to keep sharing mine in the hopes that it can help someone or at least let someone know they aren’t alone in what they are going through. I’m hoping that others will come to be if they are seeking help and don’t have anyone from isolating themselves or fear of being judged by those they know.

Sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger online about things, easier to open up. And I can always guarantee that all conversations are strictly private, between us and with no judgement. I never view myself as someone who has the right to judge.

I also started blogging as a place that I can share my amateur poetry, photography and my writing. It’s a place, a small corner of the internet I can call and make my own. My thoughts, feelings, opinions, pictures and advice. It’s something that I can finally call my own, something I haven’t been able to do since I let my mental health slide further and it became my life.

In short, I started blogging to help get my thoughts and ideas out there in the open and where I could see them and neat it up however I like (something I wish I could do with my mind) and to help others while on my journey, while spreading as much positivity as I can, when I can.

4 What is your favourite topic to write about?

I don’t really have a favourite topic that I enjoy writing about. I just love writing about things I’m passionate about, whatever comes to mind that day or week, it could be anything really.

5 Are you blogging for fun or do you have goals?

Both. I’m making sure that my blogging experience is a fun one, hoping that that then comes across my blog too. I also have goals for my blog. My main goal is to help people. I want my blog to be as helpful as I can be and reach as many people as possible in the hopes of helping them in some way or inspiring them in some way.

I’m also hoping to start selling my ‘LittleTinkablee Anxiety Candle Range’ coming soon this August. As well as selling other products I make. I want all my products to be able to help people in some way though and so I’ve been taking a lot of time into researching and thinking up things that people can really use or love.

6 What is your favourite thing about blogging?

My favourite thing about blogging so far has been meeting other amazing bloggers, being opened up to new and wonderful opportunities, and knowing that I’ve helped inspire or just in general helped someone out through my blog.

7 What are your 3 best posts?

8 Describe yourself in three words?

Awkward, friendly, loyal

9 Are you a tea and biscuit or coffee and cake person?

Both. I love some tea and biscuits, but I also like coffee and cake, though now I’ve almost completely cut coffee out of my diet…I still love cake though.

10 What’s your idea of a perfect night out?

My perfect night out, away from everyone, with my boyfriend and close friends, sat under a starry sky, a fire crackling away and drinks on the go. Not camping though, we have our own little trailers that we’ve rented out for the night. Easy going, with music playing and marshmallows on the fire.

11 Your perfect night in?

My perfect night in is with my boyfriend, sat binge watching T.V Shows, eating too much chocolate and junk food, maybe a little drink on the go.

12 What would your best friend/OH/Mum or kids say is your best quality?

I asked my sister since we’ve always been so close and she said, “You’re strong minded.” (which actually really surprised and moved me).

Thanks Tinka for sharing more about you and your blog. Thanks too if you’ve been in touch about featuring in this spot in the future, we’ve still spaces on our list so if you’ve been meaning to, but haven’t yet - please do!!
