Reflecting on my week #122

I missed my weekly update post last week, but not because there wasn’t anything to say, but also because after another busy week there was still quite a lot of processing to be done. And now looking back after our first week of co-working from home, the two weeks just gone have merged together.

Our dining room table has become mission control and quite quickly we’ve notched up our first week working at home. I’ve learnt that MOH is much more disciplined than me at taking breaks, and drinking throughout the day and that neither of us are very good at logging off in a timely manner. We’ve both pulled a couple of 8pm finishes and I know it’s not sustainable. We both have plenty of work on, but we both know we need those boundaries.

MOH did ask if I have a butler at work to make me drinks during the day. I don’t, but now he’s suggested it I’m thinking about keeping him on…

He’s also pretty good at Gin & Tonics. Which have become a bit of a thing too, luckily we have plenty of gin.

This weekend I’ve made a concerted effort to switch off, and that’s meant stepping away from the laptop too. So while I had plenty to do blog-wise, it hasn’t been done and I'll make time for that I’m sure. I’ve fitted in some pottering around in my craft room, read some magazines and finally worked out how far I’d got with my Vintage Hearts crochet blanket, and picked it up again.

I'm hoping that over the coming weeks - and who knows how long the current situation will last - I’ll find plenty more time to get my hook out. I've a feeling it will help.

A photo of mine on the wall with help from Photowall

Every now and then I surprise myself and take a photo, or a series of photos that I’m incredibly proud of. And this is one of those times. Or rather, this is five and a half years after one of those times.

Since our holiday in Cornwall back in 2014 (yes, really) I’ve been thinking about framing one of the pictures from our holiday, but never got around to doing it anything about it. I haven’t even got as far as sharing the pictures here either. Sometimes that happens.

My photo and a stunning picture with help from Photowall

So when Photowall got in touch I spied the push into action I needed. And I think it’s turned out rather well.

The thing is, I even knew where the picture would go. On the gallery wall in the study-come-craft-room, which after a strong start was stalling. It’s a wall that I’ve been keen on creating for a while, and my plan to use black frames to unify the small space was working well. Of course, me being me and our house being our house, it wasn’t quite that straightforward. The gallery wall is actually on a sloping wall, which means adding some additional fixtures to the frame, so the top and bottom are attached to the wall.

MOH is used to this now, and I like to think enjoys the challenge! Or that’s what I tell myself anyway.

getting it level

And it did turn out really well.

In fact the whole process was super easy. From uploading my picture on the Photowall site, choosing the size and cropping the image to work properly. My image was actually a colour image, and I converted it to black and white on the site too - it looks so much more dramatic doesn’t it?

My biggest dilemma was which size to choose - this is 50cm x 40cm - and the site guides you through creating your masterpiece, and if you’re not after framing one of your own masterpieces then there’s plenty of wall murals or wallpapers to choose from too.

It was quick to arrive too, the order was with me within a couple of days. If only I’d know that after our holiday in 2014, I could have been enjoying my picture on the wall for much, much longer already.

Post Comment Love 27-29 March

Hello there, and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo - a friendly linky which I co-host with Suzanne, where you can link any post published in the last week. We know you’ll find some great posts to read, and maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked and share some of that love.

I hope you are keeping well, and well, quite frankly, I hope you’re staying indoors too. It’s been a peculiar week here for MOH and I as we’ve started a new facet to our relationship as co-workers. The dining room table has been commandeered as ‘Mission Control’ and generally it’s going well.

working from home day 1

So far we’ve been lucky that none of our meetings have overlapped, he’s been bemused by my directorate’s ‘coffee meeting’ Monday morning which turned into a bit of a pet-show-and-tell. I’ve learnt he’s good at making drinks and lunch and is much more disciplined than me about taking breaks. The danger, and one that we both fell into on Monday, was that our working day is much, much longer.

For me, that’s not helped by the amount of work that’s still around, and which is now joined by the usual demands as people go back to their day jobs. The thing is though, I’m proud that people are functioning well and doing their day jobs, it means my work has helped prepare them well, but I’ve a feeling we’ve quite a long way to go in this yet.

Though I fear a bigger adjustment will be required by the time we all head back to our offices…
