Post Comment Love 11-13 October

Hello there and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo a friendly linky where you can link any post published in the last week. Both Morgan and I know you’ll find some great posts to read, and maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked and share some of that love.

In shock news this week, I left my desk at lunchtime, which is where I snapped my photo this week. Technically I was out already at another building for a meeting and made a detour on my way back to my desk, but that’s a technicality. The fact that I had the headspace to look around and notice my surroundings is the real win though. And a cute kitty cat too, to make me smile - yes that island is in the middle of the main road, but the photo needed to be taken, right?

There’s no Blogger Showcase again this week - and in a real first, I’ve not posted either this week, so I’ve nothing to link. I’m hoping to get back on my blog game shortly, and Morgan and I are starting to think about what a Blogger Showcase 2.0 might look like. If you’ve any suggestions then please drop us both a tweet.

This week I couldn’t help but laugh when I was unpacking my veg box. My heritage carrots had legs, quite literally. And I was instantly reminded of the comedy veg section on That’s Life, which I’m sure many of you are far too young to remember. There used to be a whole section of the programme devoted to peculiarly shaped veg, life really was much simpler back then, I guess!

Blogger Showcase

Our list remains empty, please share the offer of featuring in this section far and wide. And if you’ve not been featured consider it for yourself. You don’t need to be a new blogger to be featured, and you can answer as many of the questions as you’d like.

Get in touch with nature this October

The theme for this month’s post is the wildlife in our gardens. It’s estimated that in Britain our millions of gardens cover around 10 million acres, which is bigger than all of the country’s nature reserves combined. Viewed from the air you must be able to see how they create green corridors, providing wildlife with a range of habitats and the ability to move from one area to another to feed, breed, shelter and hibernate.

What we do to our gardens can encourage, or discourage, local birds and wildlife; planting flowering meadows for butterflies and insects, hedges for nesting birds, and blossom and blooms throughout the year to attract bees, butterflies and insects.

The idea is to get planting to create a wildlife-friendly garden and reap the benefits of surrounding ourselves with nature. Though right now, at the start of the month, I think we could be all be benefitting from additional water features.

Plants with nature in mind

Choose plants with fruits, berries and seedheads, including pyracantha, skimmia japonica, ornamental grasses, such as stipa and ornamental garden trees like rowan and crab apple.

And late flowering plants for late flying insects, which include asters, japanese anemones, chyrsants, ivy and mahonia.
