Black & White photo: Olympia

One thing that struck me about the Ideal Home Show was the venue; how large it was, its design and all that ironwork. And then it clicked it'd make a great black and white photo. Well in fact it's so big that I needed more than one photo to do it justice so this week it's making a short series of black and white photos!

Olympia first opened on Boxing Day in 1886 as the National Agricultural Hall and in 1888 it hosted its first Horse of the Year show. It covered an area of 4 acres and The Grand Hall measuring 450 feet long and 250 feet wide (that's 140 x 76 metres) was said to be the largest building in the UK covered by one span of iron and glass. Today there are four event venues and a conference centre, but the remarkable iron and glass structure remains in place, and I'm glad they do.

Our World Tuesday

Black & White photo: Flint wall

There's lots of traditional Flint walls and buildings in Norfolk each of them similar yet different yet full of character and great subject matter for a black and white shot!  This one is in the North Norfolk village of Stiffkey, which is between Wells and Blakeney on the A149, and much prettier than it sounds! You can see more of the village, a herd of elephant hedges (yes, really!) and my trip to the pretty village stores in yesterday's post - Stiffkey: Hedges and stores.

But before you pop over there, take a moment to admire the craftsmanship in this wall...

Black & White photo: On yer bike!

Friday was a momentous day for our bikes - it was the first time we'd travelled with them on the back of my car. But I think we were probably more worried about it than them. We carefully put our new bike rack back on the car before strapping the bikes to it and checking and double-checking they were secure. Then it was a quick (actually, make that a slow) drive around the block, and another check to make sure nothing had moved before heading through the Blackwall Tunnel and towards Norfolk.

With them loaded onto the car and checked thoroughly, there was only one thing left to do - and that was take a picture! I quite like how it turned out, with the detail of the spokes, wheels, chain and my wicker basket in black and white so thought I'd share that with you today.

We made it here ok - and so did the bikes, so all is good!  Happy Easter!
