Post Comment Love 24 - 26 October

Hello there, and welcome to this week’s #PoCoLo - a relaxed, friendly linky which I co-host with Suzanne, where you can link any blog post published in the last week. We know you’ll find some great posts to read, and maybe some new-to-you blogs too, so do pop over and visit some of the posts linked, comment and share some of that love.

Please don’t link up posts which are older as they will be removed, and if you see older posts are linked then please don’t feel that it’s necessary to comment on those. If you were here last week it was great to have you along, if you’re new here we’re pleased you’ve joined us.

Last week I shared a photo of the tiny yellow crab apples, this week it’s what they’ve become - the most bejewelled chilli jelly. And it made much more than I expected it too as well, so now I have nine little jewell filled jars, and plans to make some more with the addition of plums - assuming the crab apples survive the current Storm Benjamin!

Wherever you are I hope you’ve managed to stay dry and out of the wind - observing from inside is way better than experiencing it first hand!

Have a great week.

This week I have finally tackled some of the crab apples we have growing on our small crab apple tree. The tree has been overloaded with fruit this year, I’m not sure if that’s because it’s making up for a poor showing last year, or because it’s a mast year.

Either way, there’s a lot of little crab apples.

I picked 2kg to make some chilli jelly and the tree hardly looks as if it’s been touched. I’m hoping to do a second picking over the weekend and make a second batch of some kind of crab apple based preserve, I’m not sure yet if I’ll make more of the same, or follow a apple and thyme jelly recipe, or maybe even an apple, plum and chilli jelly recipe - though that could be plum dependant!

We’ll see, in the meantime have a great week.

10 October, it’s a date that always takes me back.

On this day back in 1983 I started at what would become my first full time job at a City institution - it seems so long ago, but also not that long ago, surely? It is though, it’s 42 years ago and while I left that employment in 2014, so after a good few years (!!) it’s a date that still sticks with me. During my time there I made many, many good friends - and many who continue to be good friends all these years on. It’s also where I met MOH some twenty five or so years ago. I’ve no idea where any of that time has gone.

I do wonder though if 1983-me would ever have imagined how life turned out, or that I’d be posting pictures of nuts from our neighbour’s garden online, let alone on my own blog. I know that 2025-me is very grateful for the message offering us some chestnuts and some walnuts, with some apples thrown in too though, so here’s that picture.

It’s funny how things work out,

Have a great week.
