This week it’s felt more autumnal and I’ve been embracing that, well most of it - the darker evenings are less good, but on the plus side autumn food is a winner in my books. We’ve currently got scaffolding up at the front of our house as we’re having the outside repainted, and that’s not helping with the darker evenings. But it will be great to have the outside freshened up, and yes we are still selling our house but are of the opinion that it’s ours til its sold, and that means keeping up with its upkeep too.

I’ve remembered that I have these two tiny ceramic pumpkins, and as it’s rolling into October this weekend it must be about time to get those out again!

The Queen’s funeral on Monday was full of pomp and ceremony as we expected, and we watched most of it before heading out for a walk in the afternoon. It was quiet locally even though there were people about, and it was good to get out and stretch our legs. That’s something I’ve been doing more of recently and it’s really good for the soul, as well as physically and thankfully the troublesome toe doesn’t prevent that happening either.

We’ve definitely been having more autumnal weather here in South London, but yesterday the sun was shining and warm so wanting to make the most of it I headed off to Greenwich Park for a walk. I didn’t have plans much more than though, though when I’m out walking on my own I enjoy popping on a podcast to keep my company. One of the more recent ones I’ve discovered is Stompcast with Dr Alex George who speaks to guests while walking around a park - yesterday I listed to his conversation with Scarlett Moffatt as they walked around Regents Park - and the idea of the recording is to encourage more people to get outside for an hour a week (the podcast is broken into three episodes so you can listen to them to match your walk, or stomp).

As I headed to Greenwich Park they were in the Rose Garden at Regents Park and so, I thought I can do that too. It’s not a part of the park I visit regularly, and on the way I spotted a statue out of the corner of my eye, one I don’t remember seeing before. On closer inspection it’s a Henry Moore and has been on display in the park between 1979 and 2007 and then again since 2011, so there’s every chance it’s been there when we have, but until now I hadn’t spotted it. It always amazes me how we may not see things until we’re ready to do so.

It’s been a funny old week here. There’s been much ceremony and pomp to see daily following the Queen’s death and in the lead up to her funeral on Monday. People that wouldn’t class themselves as Royalists touched by her death in a way they hadn’t expected, as one of my family members said they were “surprisingly emotional”.

Yesterday afternoon MOH and I headed into town, not to queue in The Queue to see her coffin in Westminster Hall (overnight the queue times have increased to 10-14 hours) but to see the floral tributes in Green Park. They are amazing and I’ll add a photo here when I can.* There is a large part of Green Park set aside for the tributes, and if it weren’t for the continuous stream of people you’d be able to find them by their scent alone. The smell is amazing, possibly more so than when they were outside Buckingham Palace as now all the flowers are out of their wrappings, and are a heady scent of the largest bouquet you ever could see.

It was quite the experience, and I imagine Queuers will have an equally memorable experience, and yes, The Queue is terribly British!

* We got home last night to discover we had no internet, and it’s still not back this morning hence the later than usual post.
