Week 15 of lockdown. The good news it hasn’t been as bad as week 14. Last week was the worst week for me so far, though I’m not sure why. I think it was the week I felt the most frustrated, and bored by it all. And saying that I was bored somehow influenced my mood. In comparison to recent weeks (and months), July is looking positively outgoing, and it’s not like we’ve got a huge amount planned!

My photo this week is of a view that greeted me as I popped out to open the greenhouse before breakfast. The runner beans that had been in the pot were neatly laid aside, and so some early and emergency gardening was needed. Thanks to the foxes. Let’s hope the beans are grateful, and don’t mind a slight outing!

there used to be beans in this pot

It’s been our toughest week of lockdown so far here, and I’m so glad it’s Friday. We noticed the fridge-freezer defrosting mid morning on Wednesday, thankfully just a door not closed properly rather than anything mechanical. And thankfully most things were salvage-able, and didn’t need immediate eating. Then yesterday our internet was down for most of the working day, which made for a frustrating day. Many of my colleagues were also affected, but luckily not everyone was so they were able to cover our town hall meeting with the Chief Exec.

But just as stress levels were rising - mainly from not being able to do anything - and this postcard from someone I’ve never met or spoken too before arrived, and all was good again. My to do list didn’t go down, but this postcard swap couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

happy post in my garden

I’m still in that lockdown phase where everything is merging into one. I have no real idea what day it is, and this week, more than most I’ve spent in online meetings. It’s no fun for MOH when I’m in online meetings six hours a day, which it has been for the past few days. It’s no fun for me either trying to get my actual work done. He is good at making me tea, and lunch, and prising me away from the kitchen table office.

A walk up and down the garden - when it’s not torrential rain - helps no end. As does the knowledge that this intense period can’t go on for ever. Though I’m pretty certain it will be followed by the next intense period. Seriously though there will be downtime, and I know I’m fortunate to be working, and to be able to make a difference to where I work, which in turn makes a difference to other people.

I am looking forward to getting my crochet on though, and spending some decent pottering time in the greenhouse.
