Love this #87 Touchdown table

I’m delving into my photos from this year’s Ideal Home Show for today’s post, and sharing a piece of furniture that not only looks good but is practical too. I’m sure many of us have charging wires trailing about, and never really having the right charging cable in the right place. I’ve solved that by having several cables, one of which always lives in my handbag, just in case.

But imagine if you could just put your phone down and it would charge. I know right, but you can. But what about if that table also acted as a speaker. And looks good too. May I present the Touchdown Designer Table:

And to blow my mind even more, you can connect more than one table to each other wirelessly for complete surround sound and/or multi room playing. They’re not cheap at almost £300 put equally if it’s functional and stylish it’s worth considering isn’t it?

They come in different finishes and fabrics and I think they’re definitely one to watch for the future.

Though, if you remember my bedside table, it’s unlikely that any side table of mine will ever look this clear.

Love this #86: Scout & Boo

The Design Arcade at Grand Designs Live is one of those places that just oozes inspiration and craftsmanship. And the best exhibitors are those that are relatively small and/or just starting out, and have something that’s completely different. This year’s show, back in May, was no different. In one of the smallest of spaces I found myself attracted to the decorative furniture of Scout & Boo., who were sharing a stand with Charlie Caffyn, who has some fantastically and timeless wooden furniture designs - which are also worth a look.

But the decorative approach for the mid-century furniture stole the show for me. The colours and vibrancy really appeals, and while a year or so ago if you’d asked me about the naked version of this era of furniture, I’d have said it wasn’t for me, it is increasingly growing on me. Now if you ask me I’ll say I’ll need a new, or suitably aged, house for everything I fall in love with.

Love this #85 Superlambananas

Now, before our weekend in Liverpool Superlambananas wasn’t even in my vocabulary. I mean, it’s not a usual kind of word, is it? But it’s a fun one to say (it’s said as you think it would be) and add a Scouse accent to that and it’s an absolutely fantastic word, especially when said with a straight face.

But anyway, these were all over the city and were part of the city’s celebration when Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture in 2008. They are, as you’d imagine, a cross between a lamb and a banana and the largest of them stands at 5.2 metres tall, and was designed by New York City-based Japanese artist Taro Chiezo.

We saw the giant yellow Superlambanana while on the open topped bus ride to Anfield. The city are proud of these sculptures and rightly so, and like so many of these sculpture trails they bring a fun element to the area with their designs and requirement to be photographed, and as you can see from the rest of this post, I joined that club too.
